Farview Angus Ranch, Regent
Roger Jacobs, tour emcee, introduces his brother Francis, owner of Farview Angus Ranch. Francis and his family manage the farming-ranching operation near Regent that was started in 1942 by his father, Guy Jacobs.

Tour participants enjoyed the view and the cattle at Farview Ranch. Four guest ranches also had cattle on display.

Farview Angus Ranch was established in 1942. The herd of 250 registered Angus cows is based on good maternal traits with cows that raise calves in a challenging environment.
Francis and Terryl Jacobs, along with their children — Deidre and Lacey — own and operate Farview Angus Ranch, a herd of 250 registered Angus cows near Regent. This hands-on, family operation was established in 1942 by Francis’s father, Guy, who immigrated to the United States from Holland in 1927.

Francis took over the operation from his father in 1970 and has since built a herd of cows with good maternal traits that raise large calves under challenging environmental conditions, similar to their commercial customers. Artificial insemination has been used in the herd since 1974, and all the feed for the operation, including alfalfa, oats and hay, is raised on more than 5,000 acres of owned and rented land.

The ranch hosts an annual production sale in February where they market bulls and bred and open heifers. Steers are fed at Dakota Prairie Beef, a cooperative feedlot near Scranton.

Francis has served as a director of the North Dakota Angus Association and the North Dakota Stockman’s Association. The ranch was presented with the Historic Angus Herd Award in 1993. The Jacobs family says the ranch offers some of the best pheasant hunting in the country.
