Since 1975, the Byrd family, which includes Dan and Chris Byrd and their children, Tyler and Brooke, has been building the Byrd Cattle Co. (BCC) operation. The herd consists of 50 purebred Angus and Charolais cows and 40 recipient females. Both Tyler and Brooke were active in junior Angus programs while growing up and continue to play active roles with the herd today.
The BCC genetic base can be traced back to Bando, Traveler and Ambush heritage. Their primary customers are commercial cattlemen who want their seedstock to work in a variety of adverse conditions. BCC has established an extensive ET program using cooperator herds and has a goal of annually implanting 200 Angus and Charolais embryos. The Byrds hosted their first production sale in September 2001. They plan to continue the event on an annual basis.
Tour attendees visit with Dan Byrd during the stop on Thursday.

BCC strives to produce seedstock that work in a real-world setting. They target cost-efficient, low-maintenance, functional cattle that are high in carcass merit, yet do not compromise reproductive efficiency.
