G Bar Angus, Lodi
The Grupe family has used both AI and ET for fast genetic progress at G Bar Angus.

In the mid-1870s, John Carsten Grupe established a commercial cattle herd on his land-grant ranch east of Stockton, Calif. Today Fritz and Phyllis Grupe, son Mark Grupe and son-in-law Bill Murphy continue to operate a portion of that ranch as G Bar Angus. G Bar is a diversified farming business that operates on 11,000 acres and includes several varieties of cherries, apples, walnuts and grapes, as well as a herd of registered and commercial Angus cattle. The ranch is also used for an elaborate hunting dog training program and for horse events and charity fund-raisers.
The G Bar Angus herd was founded on genetics from the Tehama and Vintage herds of California and the Rollin Rock and Hyline herds of Montana. It is important for G Bar bulls to be backed by performance, but they also must stay sound in the field. All calves are born and raised under range conditions. Both AI and ET have been used for fast genetic progress in producing bulls and females that fulfill their customers demands.
