Tehama Angus Ranch, Gerber

Angus seedstock are bred with an emphasis on performance and carcass traits for the commercial producer at Tehama Angus Ranch.

Tehama Angus Ranch was founded in 1943 and is one of the West’s most prominent Angus operations today. The Bill Borror family owns and manages the operation, which includes 325 Angus brood cows and 1,700 acres. Their emphasis is on breeding bulls for the commercial market of the western United States. The herd grazes both irrigated pasture and dry rangeland. Bulls are fed on the ranch and sold in an annual bull sale each fall, which was the first of its kind in California. Performance evaluation has been a priority for the ranch since day one, starting with the University of California Record of Performance Program in 1944. The herd is currently enrolled in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR) program. The Tehama herd was one of the first to do carcass evaluation, and the Borrors are optimistic about the genetic improvement that is possible using ultrasound technology.

Kevin Borror welcomed guests to Tehama Angus Ranch.

Bill Borror has served as director and president of the American Angus Association and president of the Beef Improvement Federation (BIF). He has been active in the California Cattlemen’s Association.

The Borrors have also been active in the California almond business. They have invited Doug Youngdahl, president and CEO of Blue Diamond, the largest agricultural co-op in the world, to address the group.
