McCumber Angus Ranch, Rolette
Chuck Tastad welcomed guests for the Friday noon tour stop at McCumber Angus Ranch.

Nine Angus breeders had cattle and horses on display at the McCumber stop.

The Tastads host an annual bull sale each spring and a female sale each fall.
McCumber Angus Ranch was established in 1947 by Harold and Olive Tastad. Their first registered Angus cattle were purchased in 1964 as an FFA project for their son, Chuck, who now owns and manages the ranch with his wife, Gail. Also involved in the operation are their son, Matt, and his wife, Cynthia, as well as their daughter, Jeanna, and her husband, Keith Strong.

For the past 39 years the Tastads have focused on producing outstanding females — developed by linebreeding and using sons and grandsons of outstanding cows in the herd. The herd has been on Angus Herd Improvement Records since 1964, and embryo transfer and ultrasound have been used in the past decade. They host an annual bull sale each year in the spring and a female sale in the fall.

At McCumber Angus Ranch, the focus is on producing outstanding females developed by linebreeding and using sons and grandsons of outstanding cows in the herd.
The operation includes 320 registered Angus females and 3,000 acres, which are used for grazing and producing oats, alfalfa, corn silage and grain for feed.

In addition to being involved in national and state Angus associations, the Tastads are active in the North Dakota Stockman’s Association, the Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund United Stockgrowers of America and North Dakota State University activities.
